Smith Valley was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Coleville on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 30-0 margin over the Wolves. Considering the Bulldogs have won nine games by more than 12 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Wyatt Wulfing was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wulfing was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.
In other pitching news, Gaston Rodriguez looked comfortable as he went 2-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Joseph Marshek was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to hits, as he's now got three or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Balda, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
Smith Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coleville only posted an OBP of .000.
Smith Valley's record now sits at 9-2. As for Coleville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Smith Valley is set to challenge their familiar foe Wells at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs are on an 11-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), the Leopards a six-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. Meanwhile, Coleville will take on rival Pyramid Lake at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
