Preview: O'Connor Eagles vs. Highland Hawks

The O'Connor Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Highland Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. O'Connor is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.

Last Monday, O'Connor faced Sunnyslope in a battle between two of the state's top teams. O'Connor was beaten by Sunnyslope 80-51. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for O'Connor in their matchups with Sunnyslope: they've now lost seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Highland entered their tilt with Desert Vista with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Highland walked away with a 65-56 win over Desert Vista on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Highland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ty Crandall led the charge by scoring 22 points. Crandall continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Michael Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with two steals and two blocks.

O'Connor has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-8 record this season. As for Highland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

O'Connor lost to Highland on the road by a decisive 61-46 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2019. Can O'Connor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
