Volleyball Recap: Fremont Starts Season with Win at Home

Fremont gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They came out on top against the Farmington Phoenix by a score of 3-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Fremont had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.

Olivia Surrage paced Fremont's offense, picking up 12 kills. Surrage got some help from Brooklyn Smedley and her 27 assists. Surrage was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Leah Johnson and Ellie Schow certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Johnson had 16 digs and two aces, while Schow had eight digs and two assists.

Farmington's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fremont will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Weber at 6:30 p.m. on the 19th. As for Farmington, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Mountain Ridge at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
