Mapleton dropped down to 19-3 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Monroeville Eagles by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mounties have suffered since May 12, 2025.

As for Monroeville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.

For Monroeville's part, Payton Weilnau made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Weilnau has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Genna Bragg, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Brooke Morman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

While Mapleton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
