Baseball Game Preview: B O L D Warriors vs. Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Thunderbirds

The B O L D Warriors will take on the Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Thunderbirds at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

B O L D had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Melrose put an end to it on Thursday. The Warriors fell 6-1 to the Dutchmen. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop and Sleepy Eye meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Thunderbirds fell just short of the Indians by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Thunderbirds have suffered since May 2, 2024.

Layton Uecker-Hamre put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 0-7 when he doesn't). Uecker-Hamre was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Owen Swenson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Kellen Nachreiner also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
