Baseball Game Preview: Washington Union Panthers vs. Firebaugh Eagles

The Washington Union Panthers will face off against the Firebaugh Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Washington Union will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Washington Union barely beat Selma the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 7-1 win on Friday.

Trey Morris made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, Cole Roth was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Dailon Finderup was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Firebaugh came up short against Dos Palos on Friday and fell 7-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Washington Union's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Firebaugh, their loss dropped their record down to 4-21.

Washington Union beat Firebaugh 5-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
