Baseball Recap: Vanlue Wildcats vs. Arcadia Redskins
Vanlue had lost 20 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-16 to make it 21. They lost 12-2 to the Arcadia Redskins. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 17-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Toby Reed made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one double.
As for Arcadia, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.
On Arcadia's side, Nolan Martinez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Martinez is becoming a predictor of Arcadia's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 3-10 when he doesn't). Martinez was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Colin Nusser and Owen Rader did most of the damage at the plate: Nusser went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Rader went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Rader has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Williams, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
