Basketball Recap: Connally Skates Past Gateway Charter Academy with Ease

Connally was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Gateway Charter Academy on Friday. The Connally Cadets breezed by the Gateway Charter Academy Gators to the tune of 67-34. Given the Cadets' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 488th, while the Gators are ranked 1387th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gateway Charter Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bobby Williams, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevion Gabriel, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Connally's victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Gateway Charter Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Connally wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-40 loss against Grapevine on the 28th. As for Gateway Charter Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-20 defeat against Sulphur Springs on the 28th.
