Baseball Recap: Mentor Find Success

On Thursday Mentor's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Padua Franciscan Bruins. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since May 2, 2024.

Mentor got a big performance out of Josh Wieland, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Wieland a new career-high. Austin Vanhuss was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mentor's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. As for Padua Franciscan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Coming up, Mentor will be playing in front of their home fans against GlenOak at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Padua Franciscan, they will venture away from home to square off against Lakewood at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bruins 3.6, the Rangers 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
