Softball Recap: Malad Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Malad entered their tilt with West Jefferson on Saturday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 17-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Liddia Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Kialey Pickett was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Stella Merja was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Malad kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matchups.

Malad's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for West Jefferson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Malad's road trip will continue as they head out to face Ririe at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for West Jefferson, they will head out to face off against North Fremont at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
