Basketball Recap: Makais Starr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jimmy Huntington over Nunamiut

Jimmy Huntington suffered their closest defeat since January 16th on Saturday. They fell just short of the Nunamiut Amaguq by a score of 62-59. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Amaguq this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 86-79 last Thursday.

Several Hustlers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Makais Starr, who on his way to 23 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Starr's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 23 points. Owen Roberts was another key player, putting up 24 points and eight rebounds.

Nunamiut's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexander Galloso, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 steals. Galloso is becoming a predictor of Nunamiut's success: when he posts at least three steals the team is 10-3 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tyler Hugo, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 21 boards.

Jimmy Huntington's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-8. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points over those games. As for Nunamiut, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-5.

Jimmy Huntington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Nunamiut, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Kali at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Nunamiut's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
