Volleyball Game Preview: Mountain View Bruins vs. Payson Lions

Mountain View is a perfect 3-0 against Payson since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:30 p.m. Mountain View will be strutting in after a win while Payson will be coming in after a loss.

Last Thursday, Mountain View beat Provo 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bruins.

Mountain View was especially dominant in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19.

Henry Hulse was the offensive standout of the matchup as he had seven digs and one assist.

Meanwhile, Payson faced Timpanogos in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Thursday. The Lions took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Timberwolves. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Timberwolves: they've now lost three in a row.

The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22.

Payson's loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Mountain View, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Mountain View has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Payson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Mountain View skirted past Payson 2-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Bruins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
