Volleyball Recap: Lake Catholic Beats Holy Name for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Lake Catholic waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Holy Name Green Wave by a score of 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Green Wave on September 2nd, they had to take a 3-2 loss.

Lake Catholic walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the fourth set). The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 26-24, 25-27, 25-15.

Lake Catholic was led to victory by Ava Starr and Lola Loncar. Starr had 50 assists and 13 digs, while Loncar had 31 digs and two aces. Starr is crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 20 every time she's taken the court this season.

They weren't the only good servers: Lake Catholic was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Holy Name's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cindy Viera, who had 11 digs and one assist. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Wells, who had 20 digs and two aces.

Lake Catholic now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Holy Name, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Lake Catholic didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Independence on the 27th. As for Holy Name, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against North Catholic on the 27th.
