Conestoga picks up fifth straight win on the road

Recap: Conestoga Cougars vs. Fort Calhoun Pioneers

The Conestoga Cougars waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They came out on top against Fort Calhoun by a score of 61-53. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Conestoga also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Conestoga found their leader in underclassman Owen Trofholz, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Trofholz is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andy Lamoureux, who scored ten points.

Fort Calhoun's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grayson Bouwman, who scored 13 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Bentley, who scored 17 points.

Conestoga's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1. As for Fort Calhoun, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.

Conestoga won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Douglas County West at 6:15 p.m. on January 27th. Douglas County West will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak. As for Fort Calhoun, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at 2:30 p.m. on January 27th. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Fort Calhoun is ranked 37th).
