The Lejeune Devilpups will head out on the road to face off against the Pamlico Christian Academy Mariners at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Lejeune knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Pamlico Christian Academy likes a good challenge.
Lejeune took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Southside, sneaking past 15-14.
Alexa Ortiz was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lainey Baldwin, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lejeune kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.8.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Pamlico Christian Academy's offense. They came up short against Jones Senior on Thursday, falling 14-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Mariners were not able to get on the board.
Pamlico Christian Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dannielle Palagyi, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Lejeune has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Pamlico Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lejeune has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pamlico Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
