League recap: Bailey breaks off league-leading run for Valley

5A Region 2 recap September 10, 2013

D.J. Bailey of Valley ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region 2 this season against Rehobeth last week. Bailey ran for 55 yards on the play and finished with 182 on the day as his team bested the Rebels.

Eufaula moved up to 127 from 209 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of beating Booker T. Washington 37-14.

Russell County's dynamic duo of Byron Johnson and Dontavious Hill proved to be unstoppable against Carroll, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Johnson threw for 88 yards and Hill had 44 yards receiving.

The Warriors' dynamic duo of Johnson and Hill proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Bailey was a passing and rushing force as Valley topped Rehobeth.

Hill was the best receiver in the league this week as Russell County defeated Carroll.

Bailey was the most successful running back in 5A Region 2 this week. Teammate MATRAVIOUS WILLIAMS added to the ground attack by rushing for 28 yards.

Johnson put up the best numbers through the air as Desmond Mccoy's team topped Roger McDonald's team.

Russell's Bryant Horn and Rod Hunter have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Horn has thrown for 165 yards this season, while Hunter has 5 catches for 58 yards. Joshua Johnson from the Warriors leads the league in rushing with 254 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when MARSHON HARPER's team takes on the Eagles. The Rams are currently in second, while Carroll is in fifth.

The Wildcats took down Marbury 56-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Quan Johnson in the win.
