Baseball Recap: Bishop McNamara Comes Up Short

Bishop McNamara was the 8-1 winner over Marian Central Catholic when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Fightin' Irish lost 8-2 to the Hurricanes on Monday.

Preston Payne was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Bishop McNamara saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Fuerst, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Jacob Lotz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Bishop McNamara's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Marian Central Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-9 record this season.

While Bishop McNamara had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
