Baseball Game Preview: Shorecrest Prep Chargers vs. St. Petersburg Catholic Barons

The Shorecrest Prep Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shorecrest Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Shorecrest Prep came up short against Largo and fell 5-2. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Shorecrest Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braden Stone, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Sam Reeder also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Petersburg Catholic). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over St. Francis on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Barons considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

The team relied heavily on Jared Samon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Alex Fabelo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Shorecrest Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-15.

Shorecrest Prep couldn't quite get it done against St. Petersburg Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-6. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
