Malden had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with an 11-8 win over the Portageville Bulldogs. This was a revenge game for the Green Wave: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in April, they had to take a 18-10 defeat.
Alyssa Broom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits.
On the hitting side, Malden got a massive performance out of Carsyn Cohen, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Cohen is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Camryn Ellison, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Malden hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Malden's victory bumped their record up to 23-8. As for Portageville, their loss dropped their record down to 11-14.
Malden didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-9 win against New Madrid County Central on the 12th. Portageville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
