Kokomo hasn't had much luck against McCutcheon recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Kokomo Wildkats will challenge the McCutcheon Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Tuesday, Kokomo was fully in charge, breezing past Muncie Central 60-32. Given the Wildkats' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Bearcats are ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kokomo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eliana Stewart, who posted eight points in addition to nine rebounds and seven steals. Stewart has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Avi Pollard, who went 6 for 13 en route to 18 points.
Kokomo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, McCutcheon had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 71-32 win over the Red Devils.
McCutcheon found their leader in sophomore Lillie Graves, who went 15 of 20 on her way to 30 points and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Graves has scored at least a third of McCutcheon's points. Keara Lipscomb-Allen was another key player, going 6 for 9 en route to 13 points and four steals.
McCutcheon pushed their record up to 21-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Kokomo, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Kokomo has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.5 boards per game. However, it's not like McCutcheon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Kokomo came up short against McCutcheon in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 54-45. Can Kokomo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
