Soccer Game Preview: Mathews vs. Middlesex

Mathews hasn't had much luck against Middlesex recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Chargers at 7:30 p.m. Mathews is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

On Friday, Mathews beat Lancaster 3-1. Given Mathews' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Lancaster are ranked 247th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Middlesex made easy work of King & Queen Central on Monday and carried off a 6-1 victory. The result was nothing new for Middlesex, who have now won five matches by three goals or more so far this season.

Middlesex's win bumped their record up to 8-5-2. As for Mathews, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2-1.

Mathews was able to grind out a solid win over Middlesex when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
