Baseball Recap: Lawson Wins Going Away Against Pearl-Cohn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lawson). They were the clear victor by a 20-0 margin over the Pearl-Cohn Firebirds on Monday. The Lightning might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 11 runs or more this season.

River Johnston made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Johnston was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Elliot Swihart was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-1. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was C.J. Thornton, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Lawson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pearl-Cohn only posted an OBP of .000.

Lawson's record is now 4-1. As for Pearl-Cohn, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Coincidentally, Lawson and Pearl-Cohn will both be playing Hillsboro the next time they take the field. Lawson will host Hillsboro at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, while Pearl-Cohn will host them at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
