Softball Game Preview: Ponder Lions vs. Callisburg Wildcats

Ponder is 9-1 against Callisburg since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lions will challenge the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Ponder fell victim to Boyd and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets. The Lions have struggled against the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Vada Cochrum spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits.

Meanwhile, Callisburg was not able to break out of their rough patch last Monday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They came up short against Boyd, falling 17-0.

Callisburg's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Ponder, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Ponder hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Callisburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Ponder took their victory against Callisburg in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 14-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
