Basketball Recap: Stockdale Comes Up Short

Stockdale lost against Centennial back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Stockdale Mustangs took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Centennial Golden Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 657th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 317th).

Acen Zuniga continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Centennial, going 5 of 10 to rack up 10 points along with eight boards and six assists. The dominant performance gave Zuniga a new career-high in assists. Michael Gutierrez was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 12 points.

Stockdale's loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Centennial, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season.

Coming up, Stockdale will host Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Centennial, they will challenge Frontier at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Frontier knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Centennial likes a good challenge.
