Basketball Recap: Cedar Vale/Dexter Comes Up Short

If Cedar Vale/Dexter was feeling good fresh off their 86-53 takedown of Udall last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans fell 52-40 to the West Elk Patriots on Tuesday. The loss was the Spartans' first of the season.

Maddex Moreno was his usual excellent self, going 7 of 15 on his way to 31 points and three steals for West Elk. The matchup was Moreno's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Garett Usry, who posted nine points and three steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Cedar Vale/Dexter fell to 2-1. As for West Elk, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5.

Cedar Vale/Dexter will take on Oxford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Oxford's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for West Elk, they are taking a road trip to take on South Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Elk is facing South Haven at the right time seeing as South Haven is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
