Baseball Game Preview: Varnum Whippets vs. Okemah Panthers

The Varnum Whippets will face off against the Okemah Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Varnum sitting on six straight victories and Okemah on three.

Varnum had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Strother on Tuesday. The Whippets blew past the Yellowjackets 22-6. The Whippets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by eight runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Okemah). They never let Mason get on the board and left with a 19-0 win on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Varnum pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Okemah, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
