Football Game Preview: Yarmouth Clippers vs. Traip Rangers

The Yarmouth Clippers will head out to take on the Traip Rangers at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Yarmouth has four straight wins, Traip has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Yarmouth is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Gray-New Gloucester, who was ranked eighth at the time (Yarmouth was ranked third). The Clippers blew past the Patriots, posting a 50-18 victory. That 32 point margin sets a new team best for the Clippers this season.

Yarmouth's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ignatius (Iggy) McGrath, who threw for 240 yards and six TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes. (Iggy) McGrath is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Another receiver making a difference was Adam Pelotte, who picked up 68 receiving yards and four scores.

Yarmouth was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 207 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Traip lost to Orono on the road by a 42-26 margin on Friday.

Traip's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Yarmouth, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Everything came up roses for Yarmouth against Traip when the teams last played back in September of 2021, as the squad secured a 46-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Clippers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
