Baseball Recap: West Aurora Extends Winning Streak to Four

West Aurora barely beat Elgin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blackhawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Maroons a 12-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Blackhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by seven runs or more this season.

Zach Toma was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last four contests. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eliseo Liscano, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Zielke Elliot, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one triple.

West Aurora always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elgin only posted an OBP of .348.

The win was the fourth in a row for West Aurora, bringing their record up to 22-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Elgin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 17 of their last 18 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-20-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Aurora will take on Fenton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Elgin, they will challenge Glenbard South at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
