Basketball Recap: Zita Eke's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter over Herron

Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter was the 52-49 winner over Herron when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter Raiders took a 56-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Herron Achaeans on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Raiders have lost by exactly eight points.

Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zita Eke, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Macie Dill, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Taylor Cotham was her usual excellent self, putting up 27 points in addition to eight boards and eight steals for Herron. Cotham is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Deemer, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 10 points and eight rebounds.

Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Herron, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter will face off against Tindley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Herron, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-19 loss against Cathedral on the 14th.
