Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ball). They put the hurt on the Bridge City Cardinals with a sharp 12-1 win on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Tornadoes as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Klarisa Martinez spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Kynidee Pope was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalisa Hall, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 4-19. As for Bridge City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11-1 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ball will head out to square off against La Porte at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Tornadoes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bridge City, they will face off against Little Cypress-Mauriceville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
