Football Game Preview: Magnolia West Mustangs vs. Magnolia Bulldogs

The Magnolia West Mustangs will face off against the Magnolia Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Magnolia West is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak dating back to last season.

On Friday, Magnolia West was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 31-26 to Tomball Memorial.

Despite the defeat, Magnolia West saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Peyton Bjorgaard picked up two sacks, forced one fumble, and made eight total tackles. Chase Corwin also put up two passing touchdowns, which were his first of the season.

Even if they lost, Magnolia West's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Bjorgaard was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Another thorn in Tomball Memorial's side was Bennett Mills, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Magnolia, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They breezed past Tomball to the tune of 38-3 on Friday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 28 points or more this season.

Magnolia's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.0 points on average over those games. As for Magnolia West, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
