Middletown won the last time they faced Smithsburg and things went their way on Friday too. The Middletown Knights walked away with a 54-47 victory over the Smithsburg Leopards.

Several Leopards players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Skyla Mastronardi, who shot 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 38.3% of Smithsburg's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Claire Bono, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Middletown's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Smithsburg, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-3.

Middletown and Smithsburg should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings. Middletown will take on Brunswick at 7:00 p.m. on Monday up 134 places (110 vs. 244). Similarly, Smithsburg (ranked 45th) will meet Clear Spring (ranked 195th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
