Marist has gone 9-1 against Marian Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The RedHawks will welcome the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Sandburg hit Marist with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The RedHawks wound up with the same score they had in their last game (10-6), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Marist got a good showing from JP Gainer, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Gainer has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Joey Gumuls was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Evan Smith was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Marian Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 10-6 to Marist.
Jazarris Mackmore made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Alex Kvasnicka, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Marian Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 10-19. As for Marist, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-11.
