Softball Recap: Williamston Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Williamston waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Portland Raiders. This was payback for the Hornets, who suffered a 9-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Thea Fortin made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. Fortin was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaiden Griffith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Keira Heathcock also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Williamston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Williamston's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Portland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williamston will venture away from home to challenge Mason at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portland, they will head out to take on Lakewood at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
