Baseball Recap: Southwest SD Comes Up Short

Southwest SD extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 12-15. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mar Vista Mariners. That's two games in a row now that the Raiders have lost by just one run.

Fernando Ruiz put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Elijah Lewis was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Southwest SD is 7-3 when Lewis posts two or more runs, but 5-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aaron Diaz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

As for Mar Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

On Mar Vista's side, their victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was ANTHONY PEREZ, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. JAYDEN FORREST-CAYETANO was another, earning one RBI and two runs.
