Football Game Preview: Harlandale Indians vs. Boerne Greyhounds

The Harlandale Indians will take on the Boerne Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Harlandale came up short against Alamo Heights on Friday, falling 42-20. The Indians have struggled against the Mules recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Braylon Tovar, who rushed for 31 yards and one score, and also picked up 38 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Boerne waltzed into their game last Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They had just enough and edged out the Mules 37-35.

Boerne's win came from a few key players Harlandale will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Grant Sweeney, who threw for 308 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 48 yards. Eli Nikolas was another key player, picking up 147 receiving yards and two TDs.

Boerne didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as CJ Smith, Jake Perez, and Bobby Wilkinson picked up one apiece. Wilkinson has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last three times he's played.

Boerne's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Harlandale, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

The upcoming contest will be a clash of competing strengths. Harlandale has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 191.2 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Boerne has preferred to attack from the air: they average 283.4 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.

Harlandale might still be hurting after the 49-23 loss they got from Boerne in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Indians were down 28-0.
