Baseball Game Preview: Grimsley Whirlies vs. Burns Bulldogs

The Grimsley Whirlies will be taking part in a tournament against the Burns Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Grimsley sitting on three straight victories and Burns on seven.

Grimsley proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over Hoggard.

Noah Christensen looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sebastian Rodriguez, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Doolen, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Burns made sure to put some runs up on the board against Morehead on Monday. The Bulldogs blew past the Panthers 14-4. Considering the Bulldogs have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Burns pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Grimsley, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.
