Baseball Recap: Grapeland Triumphs

Grapeland never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Centerville Tigers 2-0. This was a revenge game for the Sandies: when they faced off against the Tigers back in March, they had to take a 6-4 defeat.

Not much got past Aiden Owens, who gave up just five hits to keep Centerville off the board. Owens also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Grapeland is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Grapeland's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Edy Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits Lopez has posted since back in March of 2025.

Grapeland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Centerville, they moved to 10-6-1 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Grapeland is set to square off against their familiar foe Normangee at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Centerville will take on rival Lovelady at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
