Football Recap: Houston Starts Season with Win at Home

Houston took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 42-20 margin over the Pierce City Eagles. The matchup was close at halftime, but the Tigers turned on the heat in the second half with 28 points.

Dj Riley had an outrageously good game as he threw for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes, and also rushed for 50 yards and one score. Tucker Venn was in the mix as well, providing Houston with two TDs.

Houston's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Eli Newsome, Chase Honeycutt, and Carter Allen, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Houston is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Springfield Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pierce City, they will take on Diamond at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Eagles' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
