Baseball Recap: Cocoa Comes Up Short

Cocoa dropped down to 3-3 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Merritt Island Mustangs, falling 14-1. The Tigers were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Mustangs' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Merritt Island, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average this season.

For Merritt Island's part, Tyler Fowks looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Brody Vogel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those RBI were his first of the season. Ty Brandes was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cocoa will square off against Space Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give the Tigers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Merritt Island, they will face off against IMG Academy White at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
