Softball Recap: Hilbert Comes Up Short

Hilbert dropped their record down to 4-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-0 to the Mishicot Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 last Tuesday.

As for Mishicot, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-3. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Mishicot's part, Kiran Sanford was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Sanford has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Mishicot got a massive performance out of Emma Schmidt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Schmidt a new career-high. Kasey Brouchoud also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hilbert will host Cedar Grove-Belgium at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rockets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.5 runs per game on average), something the Wolves will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mishicot, they will welcome St. Mary Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
