Volleyball Recap: Newtown Wins High-Profile Contest Against Ridgefield

Newtown faced Ridgefield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Nighthawks walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Tigers. Winning may never get old, but the Nighthawks sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

The win didn't come easy: Ridgefield scored at least 22 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22.

Nate Twitchell paced Newtown's offense, picking up nine kills. Twitchell got some help from Dima Frunza and his 31 assists. Finally, Twitchell was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high five blocks.

Despite the defeat, Ridgefield had strong showings from Adam Swiergosz, who had four aces and one block, and Jackson Dell, who had 12 digs and four aces. Swiergosz is also crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 18 every time he's taken the court this season.

Newtown pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Ridgefield, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Newtown wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against Joel Barlow on the 24th. As for Ridgefield, they have also already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against Trumbull on the 23rd.
