Basketball Recap: Volunteer Takes a Loss

Volunteer lost against Unicoi County back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Volunteer Falcons lost 61-36 to the Unicoi County Blue Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Falcons have suffered against the Blue Devils since November 21, 2019.

When it comes to explaining why Volunteer lost, don't look at Scarlett McClaran. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave McClaran a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Elisabeth Byington, who posted four points and seven boards.

Volunteer's defeat dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Unicoi County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-14.

The future could be bright for both Volunteer and Unicoi County: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Volunteer will try to hand Jefferson County their sixth-straight loss when the two meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Unicoi County will look to extend Elizabethton's three-game losing streak when the meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
