Basketball Recap: Zoe Sample's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Garland over Wylie East

Garland lost against Wylie East back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Garland Owls took a 52-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wylie East Raiders.

Several Owls players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zoe Sample, who posted 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. That was a full 36.2% of Garland's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sinijay Maxey, who had eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Garland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Garland's record now sits at 8-12. As for Wylie East, they moved to 11-14 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Garland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-30 victory against North Garland on the 3rd. As for Wylie East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-37 win against Wylie on the 3rd.
