Baseball Recap: Berkeley Prep Has No Trouble Against Bishop Mclaughlin Catholic

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Berkeley Prep walked away with it. They blew past the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes 11-2 on Tuesday. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Ben O'Brien made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Josh Herrmann was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Carson Binder, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Berkeley Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop McLaughlin Catholic only posted a batting average of .214.

Berkeley Prep has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 16-16.

Berkeley Prep will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hurricanes: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
