Preview: McDowell Titans vs. Asheville Cougars
McDowell has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Asheville Cougars at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday. McDowell has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 578 points over their last eight matchups.
McDowell can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They claimed a resounding 70-40 victory over Enka at home. Given McDowell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Enka is ranked 291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McDowell's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Eli Elliott, who scored 15 points, and David Olivo, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Olivo has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Asheville came up short against T.C. Roberson on Friday and fell 45-33. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Asheville has scored all season.
McDowell's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Asheville, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
McDowell suffered a grim 67-47 defeat to Asheville in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can McDowell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
