It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ruidoso ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Tularosa Wildcats 10-9. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ruidoso got a massive performance out of Joel Ortega, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits Ortega has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carson Stratton, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.

Ortega wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Ruidoso kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. Ruidoso is a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Ruidoso's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Tularosa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Ruidoso will face off against Mesilla Valley Christian School at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tularosa, they will challenge Mescalero Apache at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tularosa's pitchers better be ready for this one: Mescalero Apache has averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
