Football Recap: Godley Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Godley challenged Benbrook on Friday. The Wildcats came up short against the Bobcats, falling 35-14. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 28-24 to the Bobcats when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Godley lost, don't look at Adam Pempsell. Despite the final result, he rushed for 66 yards and a pair of scores.

Benbrook's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brennan Barton, who threw for 315 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 31 yards and one TD. What's more, Barton racked up 119.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Waylin Barton was Brennan's top target, picking up 79 receiving yards and three scores.

This is the second loss in a row for Godley and nudges their season record down to 2-5. As for Benbrook, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Godley will square off against rival Dunbar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Pempsell and Kamron Lloyd. Meanwhile, Benbrook is set to challenge their familiar foe Hillsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
