Baseball Recap: Calhoun Comes Up Short

If Calhoun was feeling good fresh off their 15-5 takedown of Van on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Red Devils took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Joseph Central Irish on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Irish this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 back in March.

Calhoun saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josiah Wilson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

Calhoun has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph Central, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-4.

Calhoun didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-10 win against Braxton County on the 28th. As for St. Joseph Central, they have also already played their next game, an 11-6 victory against Grace Christian on the 28th.
