Baseball Recap: Lutheran Cougars vs. St. Dominic Crusaders

Lutheran had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-16 to make it five. They lost 9-3 to the St. Dominic Crusaders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 last Tuesday.

As for St. Dominic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-5-1. Considering they have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For St. Dominic's part, Chase Spurgeon looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Spurgeon a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Christopher Eggering was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Anthony Flamm Jr. was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Lutheran is taking a road trip to face off against St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Dominic, they will be taking part in a tournament against Fort Zumwalt South at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
